Urban Studies Director, University of Miami

Richard Grant is a Professor at the University of Miami, Florida, USA. He is Director of International Studies as well as Urban Studies Director at the University of Miami. He is a senior Research Associate, School of Tourism and Hospitality, University of Johannesburg South Africa. He was born in Ireland and is citizen of the USA. He studied at University College Dublin, Ireland, and University of Illinois and University of Colorado at Boulder, USA. He was a PEW Faculty Fellow in International Affairs at Harvard University. His is the author of 4 books and numerous articles and book chapters. His most recent book is “Africa: Geographies of Change,” Oxford University Press. His teaching and research focuses on the urban transformations in metropolitan Africa and on global cities. His research has been published in journals such as Urban Geography, Urban Studies, Urban Forum, Environment and Planning A, Africa Today, Habitat International, Urban Izziv etc.. He currently has projects on the urban green economy in Cape Town, South Africa; e-waste in Accra, Ghana; street art and neighborhood transformation in Miami and sea-level rise in South Florida. At the University of Miami, he is Director of the International Studies Program, Director of Urban Studies, Director of UCape Town. He is also a Professor in the Geography Department. He presently teaches courses on Cities in Time and Space, Introduction to Human Geography, Urban Africa, and World in Crisis.
