Özlem Altınkaya Genel

Researcher, Hanze University of Applied Sciences

Dr. Altınkaya Genel graduated from the Department of Architecture at the Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts in 2006. Having started the Architectural Design Program in Bilgi University in the same year, she graduated in 2008 ranking first in the class. She took part as an assistant curator at the “Istanbul 1910-2010: Urban, Built Environment and Architecture Culture Exhibition” organized within the framework of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture events in 2009-2010. She completed her PhD at Harvard University Graduate School of Design between the years 2012 and 2016. She worked as a researcher and assistant at Kadir Has University Istanbul Studies Research Centre and Harvard Mellon Initiative for Urbanism in the Humanities Istanbul Portal between 2014 and 2015. She has also taught courses on Istanbul, urbanization theories, urban landscaping and architectural projects at various universities. Özlem Altınkaya Genel, a faculty member at Özyeğin University Faculty of Architecture since 2017, was accepted to Hanze University Research Centre for Built Environment as a researcher for her post-doctoral studies, and continues her research on urban networks, regional urbanization, Istanbul and the Marmara Region.
