Le-Yin Zhang
Professor of Urban Economic Development, University College London
Le-Yin Zhang is Professor of Urban Economic Development at the Bartlett Development Planning Unit (DPU), University College London (UCL). She obtained her first degree (BSc in Geography) from Beijing Normal University in 1983 and her PhD (in Planning Studies) from the University of London in 1991. She is specialised in economic development and management of cities and has extensive professional experiences in teaching, research and consultancy in several countries (e.g. UK, China, Germany, Ghana, Egypt, Uganda, Ethiopia).
Le-Yin’s research interests include the role of the state in economic development, linkage between climate change and sustainable economic development in developing countries and cities, drivers of low-carbon transitions and green finance. She is the author of “Managing the City Economy: Challenges and Strategies in Developing Countries” (Routledge, 2015) and a co-editor of “Finance for City Leaders Handbook” (UN-Habitat, 2016&2017). Le-Yin served as a co-leader of Habitat III Policy Unit 7 (Urban Economic Development Strategies) (2015-2016).
