Katharina Lumpp

Representative in Turkey, UNHCR

Katharina Lumpp is the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Turkey.

After her law studies in Germany, she began working for UNHCR in Brussels and Bonn, followed by two assignments in Afghanistan and in UNHCR Headquarters in Geneva. In 2006, she was appointed Deputy Regional Representative for Protection in Egypt. Four years later, she joined the UNHCR Regional Office for Southern Europe, also as Deputy Regional Representative, based in Italy and later in Greece. From 2014 onward, she headed the Protection Service in the UNHCR Office for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), based in Amman, until she moved to Berlin in December 2015 as the UNHCR Representative in Germany. In October 2017, she took office as the UNHCR Representative in Turkey. Katharina Lumpp was deployed in various emergency operations, including in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1996, during the Kosovo crisis (1999) in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and in the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire in 2006.`
