Gülüm Tanırcan

Assoc. Prof. of Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute, Boğaziçi University

Assoc. Prof. Gülüm Tanırcan has a PhD Degree in Strong Motion Seismology from Kyoto University-Japan. She has been teaching/supervising graduate level lectures/theses at Earthquake Engineering Department at Boğaziçi University, Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute, (BU-KOERI) since 2004. She worked as a visiting scientist at ETH- Switzerland, ICTP- Italy and DPRI-Japan. As a specialist on seismic hazards assessment, simulation of design basis ground motion, earthquake source process as well as estimation of site effects for use in ground motion modelling she has participated several international research project focused on Urban Hazard and Risk Assessments including IDNDR, RADIUS, GSHAP, NATO-SfP, SATREPS-MarDIM, EU-H2020 Projects. She served as a vice-director of the KOERI for a year. She also coordinated outreach activities of the Disaster Preparedness Education Unit of KOERI more than 8 years.
